Time in Utah

Staying in our own apartment for the first two weeks!

Walking Sampson

View from up the street

Aunt Carrie chasing the kids

We were lucky enough to stay in some of our family's apartments, while they were gone to Italy for two weeks, when we first got to Utah. It was so nice at times, having our own place to come home to at the end of the day. We also got to take care of their Great Dane, Sampson.
We quickly found out that the kids had a new favorite ride at Grandma's house...riding behind the lawnmower! Even Uncle Alvin had to give it whirl and pull them around, since they wouldn't seem to get off! ha!

Girls Trip To Park City!

We went on a Girls ONLY trip at the very end of May, up to Park City! It was so much fun just hanging out and shopping around. We got to stay in the beautiful "Westgate Resort & Spa" and loved every minute of it! (P.S. They even give a discount if you are a Utah resident).
And, yes, this is Nicki's signature pose in all of her pictures. Don't ask me why.

Our trip home from New York- May 16th

"Why so serious.."

We stayed in New York with Zane & Lexi (& little z) on our way home from Grenada on May 15-16th! It was fun roaming around the town, except it was FREEZING! We were in flip flops and not very thick jackets. We bought Gabe one and tried to bundle up as much as possible. It was still pretty fun!
We got lucky on our way to the airport, though...we were able to get a limo! Somehow the limo was the same price as an SUV or large taxi van? Don't know how that worked, but fine with us! It was my first time EVER in a limo so I was pretty excited. It was really fun and we felt pretty special.

Back from Hiatus!

Well, we have been absent....for a heck a long time. We went home to Utah and played and played with all our cousins, went to Disneyland, went swimming and ate lots of really good food! We just back to Grenada last night and are still unpacking everything. It feels good to be back in our own place. Pictures coming soon...

The Leatherbacks!

The three researcher's

Checking out the turtle

Digging her nest

Catching the eggs

Leatherback turtles can lay anywhere from 50-120 eggs

Measuring the length of her shell (we think about 5 feet long)

Measuring the width of her shell

Pink Floyd re-make?

Going..

Making her way back

The eager crowd

Last night a group of us friends hopped onto a bus and headed out in hopes of seeing a Leatherback turtle. As luck had it, we got there around 8pm (about a two hour bus ride) and jumped out of the bus to see a mother leatherback on the sand! We were so excited! We had to stay behind out guide (Dora) most of the time. It was so fascinating to see the turtle lay her eggs! First, she dug out a hole with her back flippers, using them exactly as you would a shovel. She would really scoop out the sand with her huge flipper! It was so cool! It is hard to tell the size of her, but she was gigantic! I whispered to Sara standing close by, that she kind of reminded me of the turtle on the "Neverending Story." It was crazy seeing something that big moving around on the sand.
I also should apologize that these photographs are not the best. You have to take in mind that we were not allowed to use any white light at all,...so no flashes, no flashlights, nada. The researchers and our guide carried a red light with them, that doesn't affect the turtles, which is why alot of my pictures have a red glow to them. That was my only source of light. I also didn't have a tripod and it was about 9-10pm at night, so it was pretty black. I actually couldn't even see the turtle when they turned their red lights off, and I would just shoot hoping to get her in the picture. Luck must have been on my side, cause I caught a couple of her without the red glow.
When she started laying her eggs, one of the researchers held out her hand to catch them. I really wanted to touch her, and was sad that we didn't get the chance to. I guess you normally get to when they are laying their eggs, but there were too many people. :(
It was such a neat experience and I am so glad we got to go and watch it!

Sitting around the table

Gabe's friend Dyson

Are you ready?

At the end of March, Gabe's preschool had a fun sports day for all the kids. I think Gabe had a fun time, especially when she got to run! She loves to run really fast. Some of the races included, lime racing & lots of fun relay races! This last picture makes me laugh, because it is very typical of Gabe & Dyson...they are always trying to one up each other. ha! (I think it must be the age) Anyways, it was a fun day to capture and watch Gabe as she raced around! Go GABE!!

A visit from the USA!

With Obama going to Trinidad for the Summit of the Americas, from April 17-19th, Grenada has allowed the US Air Force Fighter jets the use of Point Saline's International Airport as a support base. Pretty sweet,...and super loud!

Catch of the Day!!

the Big Tuna

Barracuda..

Ren, Zane & Jayson all went fishing today and had some success! Although, they were gone for 8 hours, it was worth it, because they came home with some not too shabby fish. Together, they caught 8 1/2 fish. Yes, there is a 1/2 in there. I guess one time Ren caught a tuna and while pulling it in, another big fish chopped it in half. He thinks it must have been a shark, since it would take a pretty big fish to bite a 4 lb tuna in half that quick. Good job fellas.

"ohhhh, Barracuda...dun da dun da dun"

Remember when..

The glamour of curlers...

Gabe's talented nose picking.

One of my new favorite pictures!

I was standing in line at Foodfair the other day, and happened to look to my right spotting some bright green curlers. I kind of laughed to myself and thought about when I used to put curlers in my hair and sleep in them. It was really fun to take them out and see those bouncy curls come tumbling down....so I got some for Gabe. She was so excited about them and right when I pulled my camera out, started posing all glamorous for me. It was really cute!

Ummm...loss of words.

The three 30x40 prints.

This is the "Butterflies" print. One of my favorites!

"Le Jardin français" or "The French Garden"

"Bulls eye"

The post title explains exactly what came to my mind when I went to look at three of my prints, hanging up in someone else's house....Holy CRAPOLA! Ha! I didn't know what to say. This is crazy. A man, who has become a good friend of mine, purchased three of my prints a couple months back. He is originally from Paris, and had them sent back to Paris to be printed and then framed and covered in a UV coating (which made them hard to photograph yesterday. They kept having a glare on them, especially "The French Garden"). Yesterday, I went over to his house to check them out and wrote the titles, dates, etc. on them. I am still in shock that something I did, is actually hanging up in someone else's home! Pretty wild!
