What the "Sundog!"

The day of the Sundog, originally uploaded by Casey McDaniel.

This is what I saw when I looked up at the sun today. Kind of freaky and incredible at the same time. They call it a "Sun Dog" which also interprets into "beside the sun." This is created by ice crystals around the sun. If the crystals are randomly oriented, a complete ring around the sun is seen and if by chance they become vertically aligned, so sunlight is refracted horizontally, then Sundogs are seen. Thanks, Wiki!
